What are Roman Shades?
Roman shades (also called roman blinds) are a window covering made with fabric and known by their distinctive lifting style. As the shade is raised strings on the back of the shade allow it to fold up in roman style pleats. Our custom roman shades are available in two different fold styles to suit your preference.

Optional Lift Types for Roman Shades for Convenience & Safety
Lift type refers to how you will raise and lower your roman blinds. Blindster offers three optional lift types. Refer to the product options for each roman shade for more details and cost.
Top Down Bottom Up: Two sets of lift cords allow top down bottom up roman shades to be raised from the bottom up or lowered from the top down. Read more about Top Down Bottom Up shades.
Cordless: No lift cords; cordless roman shades are raised and lowered by lifting up and down on the bottom rail. The maximum width for cordless on our roman blinds is 84".
Continuous Cord Loop: A looped cord and clutch mechanism. Unlike the standard lift roman shade cord a continuous loop cord is the same length when the shade is open or closed. This option is recommended on shades more than 84" wide.
Roman Blinds Fold Types
Blindster's Super Value Roman Shades, the lowest priced custom roman shade on the market, is available in the popular plain pleated fold style. Our other roman-style window treatments, Premium Roman Shades Group A and Premium Roman Shades Group B are available in both the fold styles described below.
Plain (Pleated) Fold: The plain fold style offers a structured, contemporary look. Stay pockets on the back of the shade create pleats and provide for an even efficient stack.
Soft (Hobbled) Fold: The soft fold style provides tailored, curving folds when lowered. The fabric is hobbled onto the lining at 6" intervals.
Room Darkening Options: Blackout Roman Shades & Blinds
When deciding on a roman window shade for a room consider the opaqueness or light level. If maximum light blockage is desired our optional blackout liner is your best choice. Blackout roman shades are ideal for bedrooms, media rooms, or any room where darkness is desired.
Deluxe 95% Blackout Liner: Luxurious triple cloth woven in blackout lining. Made of 100% polyester fabric blocks out 95% of sunlight and provides a neutral color to the outside. Note this liner is not available with the cordless lift option.
Premium 100% Blackout Liner: Heavy weight lining. 100% cotton fabric and three pass acrylic foam with rayon flock backing blocks out 100% sunlight and provides a neutral color to the outside. Recommended for blackout on less opaque and lighter colored fabrics.
