Guiding the design and decor industries — Pantone announced it’s infamous “Color of the Year” this past December, Living Coral. The hue of orange-pink adds a pop of vibrant energy no matter where you use it. Consider these seven tips to get the most out of the sassy color this year in your home.

1. Invest in new furniture
Consider adding some furniture with plush velvet upholstery in Living Coral. New furniture will create a soft undertone to your living spaces. You don’t need huge or many pieces to make a statement. Simply add one or two pieces to the room to change it up. Subtle hints of the color, like table legs or an accent stool are another great option. For interchangeable and affordable options, incorporate textiles like pillows and throw blankets.

2. Rethink your appliances
You don’t need to overhaul your entire living room to add a dash of Living Coral. Add an accessory, appliance, or decorative item. Set up your dining table with coral place mats, napkins, or dishes. Even KitchenAid now offers appliances, like mixers and blenders, in a similar Living Coral color. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy all the benefits of the color without having to break the bank.
3. Sink into bedding
If the thought of investing in a bedroom filled with new furniture in Living Coral is a bit too much to bear, consider easing into the shade. Add the color of the year into your bedding. Living Coral is a great choice for a duvet cover, particularly if you are not committed to the color. It will brighten the entire room without overwhelming it.
4. Swap out your fixtures
The color has the power to brighten a room on its own. But, if you’re looking for an even better source of illumination, consider swapping out some of your current light fixtures. Swapping these fixtures out can be as simple as changing the base or light shade. Bringing both color and functionality to any room.

5. Add a new coat of paint
More of a commitment for some, but if you’re bold enough to try it, consider painting an accent wall. Yet, you may want to play with the tone of the color for something like this — depending on your flavor. Living Coral works well in rooms that might not get much natural light, as it has warm, welcoming undertones. For a more bold statement, repaint your front door if it complements your home’s siding. Not only is updating your front door is an easy home improvement upgrade that helps bump your home’s ROI, but it also helps to upgrade your home’s curb appeal.
6. Set out some floral arrangements
Inspired by elements of aquatic nature, bring life into your home to honor the color. Bringing life could include a few things, but here it means using florals. There are plenty of easy-to-care for houseplants to choose from. You can also choose to place floral stems, like those from coral bells or other picture-perfect plants.
7. Contemplate Your Pairings
Consider how you are pairing Living Coral with other colors and decorative items in your home. Even if you are only including pops of the color to your window treatments, make sure it coordinates with the other colors you are already using. Living Coral pairs particularly well with neutrals like white, taupe, brown, and gray.
While you should act soon to add the color of the year into your decor, don’t worry too much — it’s sure to leave a lasting impact. Although this year will be gone before you know it, Living Coral is a versatile color you’ll likely want to incorporate in your home for years to come.
