Introduction:

As I mentioned, our Deluxe Fabric Roller Shades have a blackout and a light filtering version, depending on whether you would like to heavily dim the room or just soften the incoming light. &nbsp;<ul><li>Blackout shades are a great choice for bedrooms to really darken the room for better sleep, or anywhere that too much outside light is a nuisance. &nbsp;</li><li>Light filtering shades work well anywhere in the house, as they provide privacy while still letting diffused light pass through the shade.</li></ul>The fabric on both versions has a subtle woven texture. &nbsp;In the window, it has the look of a soft linen fabric. &nbsp;But since it's 100% polyester, it's durable and easy to clean.The color choices are the same in both light filtering and blackout, which lets you have the same color shades throughout your home but choose the opacity for each room as needed. &nbsp;Note that the light filtering fabric is the same color on both sides of the shade, while the blackout fabric has a white acrylic backing that is completely opaque.

Fabric Styles:

When it comes to operating the Deluxe Fabric Roller Shades, there are a few options.The first is the cordless lift option that has a spring mechanism inside the shade - just tug the shade to release the tension and the shade will raise. &nbsp;Just pull it back down again, and the tension will re-engage and the shade will stay. &nbsp;Cordless is the best choice for homes with small children and pets since there are no dangling cords, plus you get an uncluttered look in the window. The best part is that cordless is a free option on our Deluxe Fabric shades instead of an upgrade.The second option is the beaded chain which is great for large or difficult to reach windows where a cordless shade might not be practical. Pull either side of the looped chain to raise or lower the shade.You can also opt for the motorized lift option that features a rechargeable battery and easy operation via remote control. &nbsp;With the push of a button, you can operate your shades from the couch or across the room.

Lifting Styles:

There are couple other options to help you customize the perfect shade for your window. &nbsp;One is the cassette valance option. I really like this feature as it covers the roller tube and mounting brackets, and provides a finished, designer look to the shade.The other option is roll orientation:<ul><li>On a standard roll, the fabric comes off the backside of the roll which puts the fabric close to the window for better light blocking, although on blackout shades you'll see the white backing of the fabric if you don't have the cassette. &nbsp;</li><li>The reverse roll option has the fabric come off the front of the shade for a clean, uniform appearance and to help avoid obstructions in the window like protruding latches or cranks. &nbsp; However, since the fabric sits further from the window glass there may be a little more light wrapping around the sides of the shade.</li></ul>

Style Styles:

The best thing about these shades is their affordable price and great value. You get a stylish looking fabric, free cordless lift if you so choose, and designer touches like the cassette option, all without breaking the bank.

Affordable style:

One thing I want to mention about roller shades in general is that they have a slightly wider gap on the sides of the shade versus some other styles of window blinds. &nbsp;With roller shades, the fabric roll connects into the mounting brackets on either side of the shade. &nbsp;So there is some additional space required between the edge of the fabric and the edge of the window opening for the brackets to hold the fabric roll in place and for the fabric roll to rotate as the shade moves. &nbsp;So instead of a 1/8" or 1/4" gap like on wood blinds and cellular shades, roller shades usually have about a 5/8" or 3/4" gap on each side and it's just an inherent characteristic of their design. &nbsp;So you'll have a little more indirect light visible on the sides of roller these shades. &nbsp;This will be most noticeable on blackout shades, where the light is completely blocked against the shade, but a soft glow of light will be visible in the space between the shade and the window casing. &nbsp;If you need maximum light blocking, you can consider an outside mount shade that completely covers the window, or adding drapery panels to help cover the gaps and provide an attractive layered look in the window.

Hi, my name is Jim. &nbsp;I'm part of the team here at Blindster.com with almost 20 years of experience in the window blinds industry. &nbsp;I want to show you a unique type of window shade that you might not be familiar with. &nbsp;These are our Deluxe Zebra Dual shades. Available in both light filtering and room darkening versions, these unique and functional shades provide dynamic light control and privacy. &nbsp;They also have a distinct, contemporary style, and a real "WOW" factor when you see them in a window. &nbsp;Let's take a closer look.

So this type of window shade has been steadily growing in popularity, and blends well in a variety of decorating styles - you don't need an ultra-modern décor for these shades to complement your home's style. &nbsp; &nbsp;You may have seen these shades and not known what they are or have maybe heard of them referred to by different names. &nbsp; &nbsp;You'll see this type of shade sometimes called: &nbsp;<ul><li>"Zebra Shades" (because of the stripes, even though they are horizontal) &nbsp;</li><li>Also "Dual Shades" (since they are like two shades in one, which I'll show you in just a minute) &nbsp;</li><li>"Banded Shades" (referring to the bands of fabric) &nbsp;</li><li>Or "Layered Shades" (since there are two layers of fabric) &nbsp;</li></ul>As you can see, these various names all are an effort to essentially describe how this shade looks and how it works. So let's talk through those two concepts: &nbsp;&nbsp;

"AKA" - The many names of Zebra Dual Shades

First of all, you can see that the shade is made from a fabric that features both a solid section and a sheer section. The solid section can be either light filtering, that provides privacy and reduces the amount of light coming through; or room darkening, which is opaque and blocks even more light from entering the room.The solid fabric sections come in a variety of colors and styles, and even different heights. The sheer section is transparent, but it too comes in different styles.

Fabric explanation:

Our Deluxe Zebra Dual shades are constructed by first connecting the shade fabric to the top of the shade in the back, then the fabric comes down and loops at the bottom of the shade, then back up the front, and attaches to a roller tube in the top of the shade.As the shade is raised, the fabric rises up the front of the shade and onto the fabric roll. &nbsp;The roll bar at the bottom keeps the fabric moving smoothly as the shade rises.So when you operate the shade, the bands of fabric in the front alternately overlap the fabric bands in the rear.

Shade Construction:

This is how you essentially get two shades in one:When the shade is fully lowered, the solid bands overlap the sheer bands, and you get complete privacy and light blocking. &nbsp;When the sheer fabric bands are aligned, you get partial privacy, and allow some direct light into the room.As you continue to raise the shade, you can mix and match any combination of overlap depending on how much light and privacy you'd like to have. &nbsp;Choose the light filtering material to have some natural light still pass through the shade or choose room darkening for greater light control. &nbsp;Note that the room darkening shades do not provide a full blackout experience.

Shade Operation

There are different options to choose from for how you will operate your Deluxe Zebra Dual Shade: &nbsp;This shade has the beaded chain lift option - simply pull up or down on either end of the chain to move the shade. &nbsp; &nbsp;You can request the chain to be either on the left or right side of the shade. &nbsp;There is a tensioner at the bottom of the chain that you'll attach to your window casing or wall - &nbsp;this is a child safety device that helps reduce the chance of the chain becoming a hazard, and holds it in place for easier operation.

Beaded Chain Lift:

This shade has the cordless lift option. &nbsp;This operates very simply by pushing up on the bottom bar to raise and pulling down again to lower. This gives you a clear look in the window frame without any cords and is an even safer option for children and pets.&nbsp;

Cordless Lift:

The other option you can choose is motorized lift. This style of shade has a motor with rechargeable battery and remote control for easy and convenient operation. Motorized shades will have a fabric covered cassette and no external cords.&nbsp;

Motorized Lift:

One final thing I want to mention is regarding how we make your shade in relation to the size and mount option you order. &nbsp;For inside mount shades, you'll give us the inside measurement of just the top of your window opening. We will take your measurement and make the top of the shade just narrower than what you ordered, so that it will fit perfectly into the opening, usually around 1/4" smaller. We refer to this as the inside mount deduction.You'll notice that the fabric portion of the shade is narrower than the top of the shade. This is because of the internal operating mechanisms and how the fabric roll is connected inside the top of the shade. &nbsp;These internal components need a bit of space at the edge of the fabric roll for the shade to function properly. &nbsp;The result is you'll have this small gap between the edge of the window opening and the edge of the fabric – for our Deluxe Zebra Dual shades, it's between 1/2 and 7/8 of an inch on each side depending on which lift option you choose. &nbsp;For most windows this isn't a problem, but if you feel like this might be an issue in your window, you can consider ordering an outside mount – the top of the shade will be made to your exact ordered width. &nbsp;Just remember, the fabric will always be narrower than the top of the shade due to how these shades are constructed.&nbsp;

Hi, my name is Jim, one of the Blindster.com product experts and I've been selling window blinds for almost 20 years. &nbsp;I'd like to present our Deluxe Cellular Shades collection, available with either light filtering or blackout fabric, both of which are in turn available in both single cell and double cell configurations. &nbsp;These shades are a great example of what Blindster.com is all about – helping people get high quality, custom window shades without having to pay high designer prices. &nbsp;Let's take a look at what makes these shades special.&nbsp;

Cellular shades are best known for their insulating properties and our Deluxe cellular collection excels in this arena. &nbsp;The cellular fabric construction creates pockets of air inside the shade that act as an extra barrier against heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. So these shades can help you save money on your heating and cooling bills by reducing temperature exchange in your window opening.With our Deluxe cellular shades, you have your choice of two different fabric configurations:<ul><li>The single cell shades feature a cell-on-cell design that is a great insulator, and the large, 3/4" pleats on the front of the shade are well-proportioned for both large and small windows.</li><li>The double cell shades have slightly smaller 9/16" pleats on the front, and two side-by-side columns of honeycomb-like fabric cells for a double layer of insulation. &nbsp;</li></ul>This design provides an even higher level of energy efficiency, making our double cell shades among our top selling products.&nbsp;

Insulating design:

You have your choice of two fabric opacities - light filtering and blackout. &nbsp;Here are some examples of our Light Filtering Deluxe cellular shades, which feature a semi-opaque fabric that provides complete privacy while still letting some light pass through the shade. This means you can block the view into your home while still enjoying soft daytime light inside the room.Note that lighter color shades will allow in slightly more light than darker color shades. Also, single cell shades will allow in slightly more light than double cell shades.&nbsp;

Light filtering fabric:

For greater light control, our Blackout Deluxe cellular shades are made with a completely opaque fabric that blocks all light from passing through the shade. You can use blackout shades in bedrooms, nurseries, media and TV rooms, really anywhere you want to have a dramatically dimmed room from outside light.Note that a small amount of light may be visible between the edge of the shade and the edge of the window opening. Bright outside light will appear as a soft glow around the edge of the shade. &nbsp;Ordering an outside mount shade that extends beyond the sides of the window can help reduce this effect.

Blackout fabric:

Each of our Deluxe cellular shade products are available with a variety of lift options depending on your needs and preference. &nbsp;Our Safelock cordless lift option is definitely our most popular. &nbsp;With no dangling cords, it's safe for kids, easy to operate, and gives you a clear uncluttered look in the window. To raise the shade, just press and hold the button on the handle and move the shade. The shade will then lock in position when you let go. Just do the same to lower it back down.

Lift options – Safelock Cordless:

Safelock is also available in a top-down/bottom up version, where you can also lower the shade from the top to let in direct light while still maintaining privacy. A magnet securely connects the middle rail to the headrail eliminating any light gap at the top of the shade. &nbsp;Unlike many other top down/bottom up cellular shades, the internal cords of our Safelock Top Down/Bottom Up Shades are positioned very close to the edges of the shade, so they're more discreet when the shade is lowered, keeping your view unobstructed.

Safelock Top Down/Bottom Up:

Alternatively, you can choose the traditional corded lift to raise and lower the shade. This option can be good for tall windows where you can't fully reach to use a cordless shade. Our corded shades are also available in a top down/bottom up version, with a cord on each side; one to raise the shade from the bottom, and one to lower it from the top. &nbsp; Note that we don't recommend corded shades if you have children or pets as the cords can pose a choking hazard.&nbsp;

Traditional Cord Lift:

The Continuous Cord Loop option uses a looped cord to raise and lower the shade, and this heavy duty system has the ability to operate extremely large shades, and is also good for tall shades where a cordless option isn't practical. The cord loop has a tensioner at the bottom that is attached to the window frame to hold the cord in place and to help reduce the risk of it becoming a hazard for small children.

Continuous Cord Loop:

Finally, our motorized lift option provides the most flexible and convenient way to operate your shades. &nbsp;An easy-to-use remote control moves the shade either up, down, or to a programmable "favorite" position. You can easily operate tall or hard-to-reach shades, and even multiple shades at once, whether you're on the couch or across the room.

As I mentioned before, our Deluxe Cellular Shades have the same high level of quality as what you would get from a decorator or in-home blinds company, without having to pay those high prices. You're also going to get a lot more value from these shades compared to ultra-low priced or off-the-shelf options. &nbsp;There are a few things I really like about these shades that to me make them truly "Deluxe". &nbsp;<ul><li>All shades feature a sturdy aluminum headrail that is color coordinated to the fabric.</li><li>And you'll also receive heavy duty installation brackets that provide a close fit along the top of the window frame.</li><li>There are top-quality components inside every shade that provide smooth, long lasting operation.</li></ul>A helpful feature included in every lift system on our Deluxe cellular shades are these adjusters that can change the skew of the bottom rail in case the shade (or your window sill) is not level.

Deluxe for high quality:

All of the Deluxe fabrics also are made with what we call a "D-cell" design. Like the letter D, the front side of each cell is actually slightly longer than the back. This prevents the front of the shade from sagging or going flat, providing long-lasting good looks.

D-cell fabric construction:

We offer a wide range of available colors to help you coordinate with your decor, to either blend in or provide a contrasting element in your design.Also, no matter what color you choose, the back of the shade is always going to be white to the street, providing a neutral appearance for HOA requirements or to have different color shades in different rooms.

Product Expert Review Video: Blindster Deluxe Faux Wood Blinds

Hi everyone, my name's Jim, I'm part of the team here at Blindster.com and I've been in the window blinds business for almost 20 years. &nbsp;I'm going to showcase one of our products that I really like, it's our Deluxe Cordless Faux Wood Blind and it has several unique features that I'd like to show you.

So one of my favorite things about this product, and what really sets these blinds apart from other faux wood blinds on the market, is the offset route holes for the lift cords. Most horizontal blinds have slots, called route holes, cut into them that allows the cords that actually raise the blind to pass through each slat to the bottom of the blind. The drawback is that when you tilt the slats closed, the route holes are not only visible, but they each let through a small amount of light. The route holes on our Deluxe Faux Wood blinds are much smaller and are placed at the back edge of each slat.&nbsp;

Offset route holes:

This patented design provides two great benefits: &nbsp;First, it hides the route holes when you tilt the blind closed, so you get a cleaner look without any light coming through the holes.The second benefit is that the blind overall can close more tightly than typical blinds, so you get much less light kind of "sneaking" between the slats and into the room.&nbsp;

Another feature on the Deluxe Faux Wood Blinds that's different from typical horizontal blinds is the integrated valance-free headrail. What I mean by this is that the top of the blind not only holds all the internal operating mechanisms, but it also doubles as the decorative front of the blind. &nbsp;This provides a fresh, contemporary look that bridges the traditional style of horizontal blinds into more modern decors. &nbsp; &nbsp;However, if you prefer a more traditional look, we do have an optional crown valance available that easily attaches to the front of the blind.

Integrated headrail

As if that wasn't enough, all of our Deluxe Cordless Faux Wood Blinds come with a wand for tilting the slats open and closed, and, as the name implies, cordless lift for raising and lowering the blind. &nbsp;This combination gives you a nice uncluttered look without any dangling cords, and is also a safe option for children and pets. &nbsp;Just push up on the bottom rail and the blind will stay wherever you let go. The bottom rail has a curved edge that is easy to grip and pull to lower the blind back down.

Control Options

The last thing I want to mention is that these blinds are available with either 2" or 2 1/2" slats. &nbsp;The 2" option is the traditional size that you most commonly see.&nbsp;The 2 1/2" is a great option for any window but especially larger windows. More space between each slat and fewer slats in the window create a less busy appearance, and you have a better view outside.
