How to Measure for Deluxe Blackout Vinyl Roller Shades

3 minutes to measure.

Inside Mount

Let's make sure you have what you need!

  • metal tape measure
  • Pen and paper to record all measurements
  • Check if you have sufficient depth: Measure inside the window opening from the front to the back of the opening where the blind would mount. The depth must be at least 2 ¼” without a cassette valance and it must be at least 2 5/8" with a cassette valance. To have a flush mount (fully recessed) the depth must be at least 3” without a cassette valance and it must be at least 3 ¼" with a cassette valance. If your depth is not sufficient please see our outside mount instructions.
    • *If choosing the Cordless Precision Lock lift type (must have a cassette) the minimum depth is 2 ½" and for a flush depth you will need 3".

Concerned about the light gaps that will occur on either side of the shade? Please choose an outside mount!

How to Measure:

Let's start with the Width:

  • Inside of the window opening/frame measure from left to right at the top of the opening. If rounding is necessary, round down to the nearest 1/8”.  That is your ordering width.
  • Please note that when inside mounting with a cassette valance you are only able to mount at the top of the window frame.

Now, let's do the Height:

  • Inside of the window opening/frame measure from the top of the opening to the bottom of the opening/sill on the left-hand side, the middle, and on the right-hand side. Write down all 3 measurements and circle the tallest. That is your ordering height.

Note: The factory will make the necessary deduction of approximately 1/8" to your Width to allow for brackets.  The fabric will measure approximately 1 ½" less than the ordered width. No deductions will be made to your Height.

Outside Mount

Let's make sure you have what you need!

  • metal tape measure
  • Pen and paper to record all measurements
  • Check if you have sufficient flat space. You must have at least 1 ½" when ordering without a cassette valance and you must have at least 2" when ordering with a cassette valance.

How to Measure:

Let's start with the Width:

  • Measure the width of the area you want to cover from outside edge to outside edge. Write down the measurement.  *That is your ordering width. If space permits we recommend adding 1-1 ½" on the left and right side for a total of 2-3". This will help eliminate light seepage.
  • Please note that when outside mounting with a reverse roll it requires a top/ceiling mount.

Now, let's do the Height:

  • Measure the height of the area you want to cover.  *That is your ordering height. Generally speaking, adding 3-4" to the height of your opening (including molding or framework you wish to cover) will allow you room to mount above the window frame.

Note: The factory will make necessary deductions to your Width to allow for brackets. If you need to cover a specific width (e.g., for mounting a shade on a door) add 1 ½" to your ordered width. No deductions will be made to your Height.
