How to Measure for Fabric Vertical Blinds

3 minutes to measure.

Inside Mount

Let's make sure you have what you need!

  1. metal tape measure
  2. Pen and paper to record all measurements
  3. Check if you have sufficient depth: Measure inside the window opening from the front to the back of the opening where the blind would mount. The depth must be at least 2”. To have a flush mount (fully recessed) the depth must be at least 3 ¾”. If your depth is not sufficient please see our outside mount instructions

How to Measure

  1. Let's start with the Width:
    • Inside of the window or door opening/frame measure from left to right at the top of the opening, the middle of the opening, and then the bottom of the opening. Write down all 3 measurements and circle the narrowest. If rounding is necessary, round down to the nearest 1/8”.  *That is your ordering width.
  2. Now, let's do the Height:
    • Inside of the window or door opening/frame measure from the top of the opening to the bottom of the opening/sill on the left-hand side, the middle, and on the right-hand side. Write down all 3 measurements and circle the tallest. *That is your ordering height.

Note: The factory will make necessary deductions of approximately ½" to your Width and ½" to your Height to account for movement in the window or door opening and to ensure that the valance will fit.

Outside Mount

Let's make sure you have what you need!

  1. metal tape measure
  2. Pen and paper to record all measurements
  3. Check if you have sufficient flat space. For a successful outside mount, you must have at least 1 ¾" of flat space above the window or door opening.

How to Measure

  1. Let's start with the Width:
    • Measure the width of the area you want to cover from outside edge to outside edge. Write down the measurement.  *That is your ordering width. If space permits we recommend for the blind to overlap the opening by at least 3" on the left and right side for a total of 6".
  2. Now, let's do the Height:
    • Measure the height of the area you want to cover from where you plan to mount the brackets down to where you want the bottom of the vane to end.  *That is your ordering height. The blind will be made to the height you order with a minimal +¾" tolerance. Although a successful mount requires at least 1 ¾" of flat space, if space permits we recommend mounting at least 3" above the window opening.

Note: The factory will not make any deductions to your Width or Height, however, the valance will be 1" wider than the blind to cover the track.

*For a door mount, we recommend that vertical blinds hang 1" above the floor. For a standard window, we recommend that vertical blinds hang at least ¼" above the windowsill.
